第11講 その他の不定詞（１）

★to say は理由を表す不定詞で、「〜するとは」と訳す。
※say (that)... 「…ということを言う」
（注意） … の記号は「節」を表します。今後は注なしで記述していくので覚えておいて下さい。
２．I am delighted to see you, Mr. Wenger.
★be delighted to do 〜 「〜してうれしい」（感情の原因を表す不定詞）
be glad to do 〜 よりもかしこまった表現。
※to see のところは、to meet でも可。
３．When Mary got to class, she was horrified to discover
she had left the textbook behind.
★be horrified to do 〜 「〜してぞっとする」（感情の原因を表す不定詞）
※discover (that)... 「…ということを発見する」
※had left （過去完了）となっているのは、horified（ぞっとした）の時点よりも
前のことを表しているため（大過去）。
※leave A behind 「Ａを置き忘れる」
４．I can't think of what to say in English in this situation.
★what to do 〜 「何を〜すればよいか」
※can't thik of A 「Ａを思い出せない／Ａを思いつかない」
５．The doctor thinks carefully before deciding
what medicine
to give.
★what A to do 〜 「どのＡを〜すればよいか」
※before 〜ing 「〜する前に」
６．One of the harder things about learning English
well is
when to say "sorry."
★when to do 〜 「いつ〜すればよいか」
※one of A 「Ａのひとつ」
※the harder things 「より難しいこと」
harder は hard の比較級。
※about A 「Ａについて」
問題文では動名詞がきている。
７．They couldn't decide whether to go to the mountains
or the sea.
★whether to do 〜 「〜すべきかどうか」
whether to do A or B 「ＡすべきかＢすべきか」
８．Needless to say, he could not get the prize.
★needless to say 「言うまでもなく」（独立不定詞）

★to say nothing of A 「Ａは言うまでもなく」（独立不定詞）
