★deny ~ing 「〜していないと言う、〜したということを否定する」
deny A B 「AにBを与えない」
※問題文では、「盗んだ」時のほうが、「deny(否定する)」の時制よりも
過去のことを表しているから、完了形にすること。
※finish ~ing 「〜し終える」
put off ~ing 「〜するのを延期する」
give up ~ing 「〜するのをやめる」
avoid ~ing 「〜しないようにする」
２．She has had a special training with a view to becoming
a spacewoman.
★with a view to ~ing ＝ for the purpose of ~ing
「〜する目的で」（to の後ろは動名詞)
＝in order to do ~ 「〜する目的で」（to の後ろは動詞の原形)
※３つとも、不定詞の副詞的用法より、形式ばった表現。
３．There is no knowing what he meant by that remark.
★There is no ~ing 「〜できない」
(本文同意)＝It is impossible to know what he meant by that remark.
４．On seeing his daughter, he smiled and ran up to her.
★on 〜ing 「〜するとすぐに」
（同意）＝ As soon as he saw his daughter, he smiled ran up to her.
５．It goes without saying that honesty is the best policy.
★It goes without saying that... 「．．．ということは言うまでもない」
６．I never went to see him without finding him at his books.
★never ... without 〜ing 「〜せずに．．．することはできない」
※ at one's books 「勉強中で」
７．I don't feel like waiting any longer.
★feel like 〜ing 「〜する気がする」
※not ~ any longer 「もはや〜ない」
８．Would you mind coming earlier next time?
★Would you mind 〜ing? 「〜していただけませんか」
９．I know he has behaved badly, but I cannot help feeling
sorry for him.
★ cannot help 〜ing 「〜せざるを得ない」
